Light

Fall's here! Can you tell? This might have easily been my favorite assignment. I love light!! I felt like there was ample material to photograph and AWW it was just so cool!

DoF was okay too. I liked being able to make the story change with different focuses. Like the leaves on the water. Some of the ones I had had the leaves blurry and the reflection in focus. It made a different story then.

Depth of Field

Middle DoF. The blurry post on the right tells you it's really close and then the angle back draws you in

Close DoF. Concentration on that board

Medium-close DoF. The reed reach in the opposite direction of the river flow. It gives it a contrast. The DoF blurs the background to make the opposing texture softer and yet more visible.

Close DoF. The fire is the focus because it's a different color and in focus. It's a small reminder how a small flicker and turn into a wild blaze.

Middle DoF. It showcases the dancing flames but frames it by adding the suggestion of an audience in the distance.

Close DoF. Balance is created with the shadow, but the focus is on the knots and then down to the solid black stripe serving as a sort of spine.

Medium-close DoF. The reflection of the trees is out of focus while the leaves on the water are in focus almost like the trees are a blurring reminder of where they once were.

Close DoF. Flaky paint with sharp shadows to emphasize the peeling, letting go of the wall.

Middle DoF. The shadow and red highlight weigh the bottle down and along with the overlording view it makes the bottle seem heavy. Maybe with abandonment? Or nostalgia?

Wide DoF. The trees and the bridge almost form parallel lines as they recede. The wide focus and upward shot add a grand scale to the image.

Tonal Balance

I have them set up as Blown Out, Balanced, Plugged.

I'm going to admit, I spaced a little on this project, so it was a good thing we only had four pictures to do. Admittedly, these are SO NOT the best pictures I've ever taken, but with that said, I want to explain why on some of them. I wasn't going into this with the mindset of having really good photos; I went into with the idea of setting. I knew that when I plugged up the blacks, that the mood would get darker, and when I blew out the whites, the mood wouldn't necessarily get lighter, in fact it would get harsher, like the sun on a really, really clear day. So I took a few shots that would detail those changes. Hence, the clustered buildings, and the (I know) centered picture of the trees.
I did like this assignment, though. It was really neat to see just how the mood can be changed with the lighting.
Is it just me, or do the blown out pics look like they've been taken during the flash of a nuke?

Blur and Crop

Hey, so let's talk about this one.
I liked the end result of the last five (the ones that were subjectless and out of focus). I think the colors and lines have this interesting and pretty look to them. The first five (the ones where abstract was done with cropping) I had a harder time. I think I got some okay shots, but I like the first five better. It was a neat assignment and I liked some of the shots I got. Overall, I give it a thumbnail up (that's like a thumbs up, but only part of one).

Full Frame

Oh, boy. So this week was really tough, not just because the material was a little difficult, but also because I had like zero time to do anything. On top of all that, my memory card has been acting up, and as a result, I (for some reason) do not have some of my RAW files. I shot them in RAW; I promise, but when they downloaded, the RAW file got lost somewhere. I've checked other file folders and my trash and nothing turned up. Ergo, the pictures I have may not illustrate full frame to the peak it should. They also lack some fine tuning and editing. But you do what you got to do.
